Download the independent contractor invoice template to formally request payment for most any type of independent contracting work. This includes freelance home repair, graphic design, writing, and much more. Be sure to accurately describe the work you performed and the charges being applied.

How to Make in Adobe PDF and Microsoft Word

Step 1 – Download in Adobe PDF (.pdf) or Microsoft Word (.doc).

Step 2 – Heading – Write the date and invoice number at the top, and then enter the name of the client you’re billing and the name or description of the project you’re working on.

Step 3 – Description – For each type of work you’re charging separate rates for, include a different row in the table, and describe each specifically enough so the client will understand what you’re referring to. Include the quantity/hours and unit price for each at the right.

Step 4 – Total – Add each figure in the subtotal column to reach the grand total.

Step 5 – Below, enter any payment terms such as deadlines and include your company’s address and other contact information. Fill in the Approved By section if needed.

How to Make in Microsoft Excel

Step 1 – Download in Microsoft Excel (.xls).

Step 2 – Heading – At the top, enter your company’s name followed by its contact information including phone number and website. Underneath, enter the name and contact information of the client. Then generally describe the work performed to the right.

Step 3 – Job Table – Enter each separate type of work on separate rows, with a description that’s adequate for the client to understand what’s referred to. Then enter the quantity and price for each so you can get the amount for each.

Step 4 – Labor – Fill in the name for each person that performed the labor in the bottom left table and include the date, hours, and rate to get the total amount due for labor.

Step 5 – Total – Enter the labor and parts totals, include any tax, and add each to reach the grand total. Write any comments the client needs at the bottom and then sign the invoice to complete it.
